Safety is definitely a priority for new car buyers so Global NCAP has become very important in recent years. The Global New Car Assessment Program is a project that assesses the safety of your car. This scheme verifies the safety of a vehicle by crash testing the vehicles and gives them a safety rating. Depending on the safety rating, a vehicle is evaluated on how safe the vehicle is for the driver and seats.
Cars like Tata, Mahindra and even Honda advertise car safety after crash testing. If you are considering buying a new car, these safety ratings provided by the G-NCAP will help you make a better decision.
What Is Global NCAP ?
The founder chairman of the Global New Car Assessment Program launched a project of the Zero Foundation in which the crashworthiness of a car is evaluated through crash testing with some key parameters.
This project was started in 1978 and then other regions like Japan, Europe, Latin America and other regions and their markets launched some similar organizations or projects like NCAP. Bharat NCAP was launched in 2014 where India tested its own manufactured vehicles and till now more than eighty vehicles have been tested in total.
How to evaluate the safety of a new car?
The safety test in Global NCAP basically involves a front offset crash test where two vehicles of the same weight collide at a speed of 50 km per hour. The crash test involves a car crashing into a deforming barrier at 64 km/h, with several dummies placed inside the car to represent passengers.
The G-NCAP crash test rating is based on adult and child occupant protection scores. Points are awarded depending on safety features.
What factors does adult safety score depend on?
The adult occupant protection score depends on the head, neck, chest, knee, femur, pelvis along with other important parts such as legs and feet Cars are given extra points for the presence of safety equipment like seatbelt reminder, ABS, side impact protection as standard equipment in the car.
Child Safety Score Depend on:
For the safety of children, cars are equipped with ISOFIX child seat belts that protect children. Crash tests evaluate how safe child restraint seats are for children.
